Adding to the frightening dystopias of the
combination of crime prediction and emotion recognition in China without
comment:
The recognition of emotional expression, behavior and gait is now added to the “algorithmically processed
categorization of metadata” (Cheney-Lippold) in China. Surveillance systems based on emotional recognition have been already installed in the western region of China with the highest density of the Muslim minority. The recognition system is supposed to “read” the mental state of people, focusing on aggression and nervousness. The article mentions that emotion recognition is not very reliable for now – luckily!
